Microsoft Update Tuesday’s…

Like every other PC user that runs a version of Microsoft Windows I had some hot fixes to download. I figured that I would go ahead and just get i out of the way and get them downloaded and installed. I started the updates on my Home Server and then on my desktop. I was then prompted to ‘restart’ my machine to finish installing the updates. After the Home Server had restarted and my user account logged in none of my user specific settings loaded and I got a message to contact my system administrator (which is me).

I have been burned once before by the Microsoft Windows updates and I was not very happy about this. I decided that I would restart and then see if that fixed the problem. With my fingers crossed and thinking of when I was going to find time to re-setup all of my user account settings. Sure enough I didn’t have to do anything other then restart and poof… all is well.

Windows 7

Like many other Microsoft enthusiasts I downloaded the Microsoft Windows 7 Beta Build 7000 as soon as it was available (and I could get a connection to the Microsoft download server).  I currently have two installs of Windows 7; one is installed on a dedicated machine and the other is installed on a VM session.

Dedicated Machine

VM Session

I currently use Vista Ultimate as my everyday OS but I am starting to use Windows 7 more all the time.  At first I wasn’t sure how I was going to like the new Windows toolbar.  The new look and functionality has proven to be something that I have grown to like using and find the new features to be very useful and increase productivity once I had grasped what I could do with them.

What do you think about Windows 7?

If you are looking for more information about Windows 7 I suggest going to the SuperSite for Windows.

Gmail.com Themes…

Yesterday as I was checking my Google Reader account I saw a post that showed the new Gmail Themes.  I immediately went to my Gmail account to see if I had the themes option enabled yet and sure enough there was a banner at the top of the page letting me know that I could change the theme for my Gmail page.  The first theme that I tried was the ‘Terminal’ theme and I think this is a great add-on that allows people to customize their Gmail.

Here are some screen shots of the Terminal theme as well as the other themes that are available at this time.

Please leave a comment of what you think of the new Gmail Themes feature.

Google Chrome...

I have been using Google's browser called 'Chrome' since Oct. 13 and I find my self using it on a daily basis now.   If you track the software that I use on Wakoopa then you already know this.

Chrome seems to be even a little faster then IE 7 or Firefox and definitely has some features that put it ahead of the competition in my mind.  I like the fact that the web pages that I visit most often are right on the home screen when I launch the browser and the instant search built into the URL line.  The one other feature that I enjoy tremendously is the ability to grab a tab and move it to a new standalone browser window and then if I want I can drag-n-drop the tab back into another browser window.

What do you think of the Google Chrome browser?
